I can’t believe it took me so long to figure this out. The actor who played Saruman in the Lord of the Rings movies and Count Dooku/Darth Sidious in “Attack of the Clones” is the same guy who played Scaramanga, the assassin, in “The Man With The Golden Gun.” I realized this watching the opening scene to Golden Gun on TV just now. I’ve seen this Bond movie probably 20 times, and the LOTR movies a total of 10 times, and “Clones” 2 times. And I just now put it all together. Christopher Lee rocks! According to IMDB he’s been in 222 films in his career.

Speaking of movie connections, I watched “Batman the Movie” yesterday. The beautiful Lee Meriwether plays Catwoman in the film. And here’s an interesting tidbit I learned from IMBD. She’s the same woman who was in the Star Trek (the original series) episode as the woman who can kill people with one touch – the source of one of my favorite lines from the series, “Mr. Scott, there’s a strange woman who knows the entire plans of the Enterprise. AAHHHH!” This follows the “I am for you, Mr. Watkins” line.

In my book, the three funniest movies of all time are “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, “Fletch”, and “Airplane”. I decided I should own those, so I ordered them used from Amazon.com. Maybe I’ll have a marathon laughfest party sometime and play all 3 of them in a row.

For my money, I think I’m more impressed with the sound design of Nine Inch Nails’ “The Fragile” 2-CD set than any other musical release I own. It’s been almost 4 years now since this was released, and every time I listen I still think it’s probably Trent Reznor’s masterpiece. I have no idea how he could possibly top it. The songs all go together so well (with one exception – Starfuckers) that I think it even beats “Dark Side of the Moon” as a concept album. And the arrangement, mix, and mastering are unsurpassed by anything I’ve seen. What really impresses me is the mix of instrumental and vocal pieces.

Here is a pretty cool advertisement for a car. I don’t think you’d ever see this on American TV. It’s a 2 minute long film of a Rube Goldberg contraption created using parts from a Honda Accord.
