“Mike in the Shot” – premiere January 4, 2006

In case you haven’t heard, my new film “Mike in the Shot” premieres Thursday January 4, 2006. It’ll be showing at Starz Filmcenter in Denver, as part of the monthly Group 101 series. The fun all starts at 7:00 PM. Afterwards, come join us across the street at Brooklyn’s and buy a drink for your favorite member of the cast or crew (ps. I’m partial to mojitos).

NOTE: the film has one very short line of R-rated dialog delivered with such bravado that I couldn’t bring myself to “bleep” it out. My parents didn’t even notice it when I played the movie for them the day after Christmas, but if you’re thinking of bringing children, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

And as I said in a previous blog entry, you can see production stills here.

Finally, don’t forget that you can see a calendar of all my upcoming film related adventures here.

Looks like I’m going nowhere

I’m so pleased to say that my favorite one-page website is back online.

Wonder what it means?  Maybe this will help.

Christmas

Beth and I spent the weekend in Redstone for Christmas. Everyone got lots of nice gifts and we had a good time. We ate too much, too, of course. I just posted 89 photos from the weekend on my Flickr site, including the one above of my niece Kristina Raine Bradley (on the right, dressed as an angel).

Here are all the photos: http://flickr.com/photos/20201392@N00/sets/72157594443586041

Dog weddings called off on grounds of cruelty

It’s interesting how views of marriage differ throughout the world. Here in America, the predominant opinion seems to be that marriage between anything but one living adult man and one living adult woman is a threat to the sanctity of the institution of marriage. (as if an institution that’s thousands of years old is somehow in danger and needs our urgent protection)

But in India, they’re canceling dog weddings, not because it’s somehow an affront to the institution or even a violation of religious customs, but because it’s cruel to the dogs. I love it!

I’m now a YouTube director

I just uploaded “In the Moment – Short Version” to YouTube for the teeming masses to enjoy. You can enjoy it, too, right here. The YouTube version is low resolution (360×240 pixels) and low frame rate (15 fps). But I suppose it’s better than nothing. I still have 2 or 3 DVDs that have both the short and long version, so if you want one, let me know.

Mike in the Shot Production Stills – a photoset on Flickr

On Saturday December 9, some friends and I shot my 2nd film, called “Mike in the Shot.” Here are production stills taken on my digital camera by Beth. The film takes place inside a restaurant, and we were able to use my favorite restaurant in Lafayette, called Pulcinella Ristorante. The film will be finished by the end of the month and will premiere in early January.

Silk Soy Yogurt

I just had a container of black cherry Silk brand soy yogurt, and I really liked it. In fact, I think I like it more than “regular” milk-based yogurt. I’d buy it again.

Todd’s brown rice pilaf

Here’s a recipe I just made up this evening and it was very tasty. I served it with Orange Hazelnut Asparagus and some fresh grilled tuna.

Rice Pilaf

Ingredients

2 cups brown rice

3 green onions

1/2 red bell pepper

1 medium carrot

1/2 cup fresh pineapple

3 fresh mushrooms

10 macadamia nuts

1 Tbsp soy sauce

Preparation

Wash the rice and cook in a steamer. Preheat oven to 350 F.

Chop the green onions, red bell pepper, mushrooms, and pineapple . Shred and then chop the carrot. Toast the macadamia nuts, and then chop them up in a food processor.

Once the rice is done, pour it into a baking dish. Mix in all the other ingredients except the soy sauce. Cover with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Take off the foil and bake for another 15 minutes.

Stir it up, right before serving. Drizzle the soy sauce over the top.
Makes 4 servings.

Note: My original plan was to add a small can of diced green chiles and 3 Tbsp of uncooked canned peas. But I got distracted making the fish and forgot to throw those in the baking dish.

New Moon Farms CSA

Beth and I just joined our first CSA, New Moon Farms. In case you don’t know, CSA stands for “community supported agriculture” and the idea is that you buy a share (or, in our case, a half-share) of one growing season at a local farm. The farmers plant, raise, and harvest the food, and then split it up among the members of the CSA. So, if it’s a good year, we get lots of food. If it’s a bad year, we get less. But regardless, it’s all fresh locally-grown stuff raised by a farming family we can meet and talk to, as opposed to coming out of some faceless megacorp at the local supermarket.

We’ll get fresh produce, herbs, etc. every Wednesday from May until October. Presumably, a half-share is enough for 1-2 people, so I hope we won’t have so much we have to throw anything out. Of course, it’s possible that if it goes well, we could do a full-share in 2008 and then store some of the food over the winter. But that might require getting a bigger freezer or a dehydrator. I think I’m too lazy to can stuff in Mason jars.
