Schmutz Blocker 3.0 is out!

The Mozilla people released Firefox 3.0.  You know, the web browser that blocks all the schmutz.

I’m downloading it to all my computers as fast as I can.  Already upgraded my work desktop this afternoon, but still need to do my work laptop.  And I just upgraded my Mac mini (which I’m writing this from).  I’ll do my MacBook Pro later tonight.  Like you care…

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ever had someone ram a tube down your throat into your stomach?  I’m now scheduled to have just that very thing done.  Here’s the description of the procedure:

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In medicine (gastroenterology), esophagogastroduodenoscopy is a diagnostic endoscopic procedure that visualises the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract up to the duodenum. It is considered a minimally invasive procedure since it does not require an incision into one of the major body cavities and does not require any significant recovery after the procedure (unless sedation or anaesthesia has been used). A sore throat is also common.[1][2][3]

Sounds like loads of fun, eh?  That’s what I’ll be doing the afternoon of Tuesday June 24.  Why?  Because I have unexplained anemia, and it sucks.

2 charged in London with giving Amy Winehouse drugs – Yahoo! News

2 charged in London with giving Amy Winehouse drugs – Yahoo! News

London police say John Blagrove and Cara Burton have been charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine and MDMA, also known as ecstasy. The suspects were released on bail Thursday until their next court appearance on July 1.

Police began an investigation after photos from the footage were published in The Sun newspaper in January. Detectives say Winehouse will not be charged in the case.

Wow, they sure do things different in England.  Charging the drug dealers but letting the user go free?  Here in the US, the dealers would be charged, of course, but the user would be sent to prison, her personal possessions seized by the DEA, and her family charged with conspiracy since they didn’t turn her in to police.

Cyclist critical after being hit by car : Broomfield : Broomfield Enterprise

Cyclist critical after being hit by car : Broomfield : Broomfield Enterprise

I just read this article this morning:

A 24-year-old driver from Boulder was cited for misdemeanor careless driving after he hit and critically injured a 57-year-old bicyclist Monday afternoon in Broomfield.

Walter Johnson ran into the back of the woman’s bicycle at about 11 a.m. while driving a 2002 Saab southbound on Simms Street about a half-mile south of 128th Avenue, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The State Patrol determined that the cause of the accident was inattentive driving. Alcohol, drugs and speed were not suspected.

The cyclist, Rhonda Kobi, of Northglenn, was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver with serious injuries, according to the State Patrol. She was listed in critical condition Monday night.

I think the author must be a little confused about the location of the incident. It must have happened 1/2 mile south of Colorado Highway 128, since Simms Street doesn’t go within a 1/2 mile of 128th Avenue, as shown by this map:

You may be wondering how it is that the driver hit the cyclist hard enough to critically injure her, and then get off with just a misdemeanor. That’s what Beth just asked. I’m not sure.

back from vacation

Hi, everyone. Beth and I just got back from a 2 week vacation yesterday. It’s good (and bad) to be back. We spent lots of time in and around canyons. I guess that was the theme. Beth took hundreds of photos, and I shot about 90 minutes of HDV video. So much that it’ll take weeks or months to edit into something presentable.

If you’re interested, here is a Google Maps link that shows all the places we stayed. The main waypoints with the letters are locations where we stayed at least one night. I’ll tell you more later.

I think we drove over 1700 miles, heard 5 different languages spoken, and slept in 4 different states.   We saw desert bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, mule deer, elk, and my first ever California condor!  Plus lots of other birds, a bat or two, a snake, and a few bugs.

CAKE

CAKE

“I dont want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

– George W. Bush

Beth and I went to see the band Cake perform at the Denver Botanic Gardens last night.  Today, I went to check out their website and found the above quote on the front page.
