teenage wasteland

YouTube Preview Image

I just heard the most poignant thing I’ve heard on TV in a while. Pete Townshend, writer and guitarist from The Who, said this in reference to his famous song “Baba O’Riley” (which many people mistakenly think is called “Teenage Wasteland”):

“For me – you know – that notion of ‘teenage wasteland’ – it is about waste. It’s not about getting wasted. It’s about waste. It’s about wasted life, wasted opportunity, wasted years. And I take full responsibility for the fact that my generation complained about the state of the planet and did nothing to change it.”

Now that’s a lot of guilt to live with!  But I see his point.  They were the biggest rock band and one of the most significant cultural phenomena in the late 1960s to the mid 1970s.  That’s quite a bully pulpit they had, if they had chosen to use it.

Hell in the Pacific

I was just flipping through channels on TV last night and ran into “Hell in the Pacific.” I thought I’d watch just a few minutes, but I got sucked into it and watched the whole thing. It’s a weird movie. There are really only two characters in it. Toshiro Mifune (widely regarded as the best Japanese film actor ever) was in it, and only spoke Japanese. His counterpart was played by Lee Marvin, who only spoke English. Can you think of any other film with only two characters who speak different languages throughout?

Mifune was such an incredibly amazing actor. You may know he was Akira Kurasawa’s main actor, and he made – according to IMDB – 181 films. He appeared in such classics as “The Hidden Fortress” and “Yojimbo” and “The Seven Samurai.”

iPhone Visual Voicemail Problems

I’m optimistic that the problems I’ve been having with my iPhone visual voicemail will be resolved by this simple trick:

Re: Iphone Voicemail problems. – Apple – Wireless Forums from AT&T

Ever since upgrading the phone to software 3.0, I haven’t gotten voicemail notifications in a timely manner.  Sometimes I never see them!  So someone will call, I’ll miss the call, they leave voicemail, and I don’t know until hours or days later that they even left me a message.  That sucks!  And it’s very frustrating.

I’ve been accepted to the Blissfest 5 Film Festival, four times!

People often ask me, “Hey Todd, will you ever show some of your short films in Colorado Springs?” Well, the answer is yes. Four – yes FOUR – of my films have been selected for inclusion in a film festival in the Springs that’s running August 7, 8, and 9.

My films that were selected are:
- HDTS Promo Video
- Mike in the Shot
- Discretion
- The Gift

My films are all screening the evening of Friday August 7 at a restaurant/bar called Nosh. I haven’t been there, but their menu sounds delicious, and I can’t wait to try it out!

The film festival is part of Blissfest 5: http://www.blissfest333.com

Proceeds go to Angel Eyes (formerly called Colorado SIDS Program): http://www.angeleyes.org

Film screening is at a Restaurant/Bar called Nosh:

Moon

Beth and I just got back from watching “Moon” at the Mayan down in Denver. I recommend it. Cool sci-fi movie on a modest budget. No explosions or transforming robots.
